Hospiscare Heroes - Running And Challenges Galore

In this week's bumper double Hospiscare Heroes blog we have Sunflowers, ‘Open Gardens’, running and challenge events galore and even a James Bond and ‘M’ cross-Europe car adventure!

A massive thank you to Len Styles of Honiton who has been competing in ultra endurance events for Hospiscare at 80 years young. If you were thinking of doing a running or challenge event for us but are not sure if you could do it, then click here to read the inspirational story of how Len used exercise to help him deal with bereavement, and reached feats of endurance you wouldn’t believe possible. Len, you are an inspiration to us all!

Roger Moore (yes, that is his real name) and Elaine ’M’ Edwards are currently on the cross Europe James Bond ‘Fireball Rally’ raising funds for Hospiscare and Rowcroft (a Torquay based Hospice). Their adventure is taking them from Kent to Bruges over a four day period. Thank you for your efforts and we look forward to hearing how it went.

Thank you to Leah Harper, who, as a self confessed ‘not a fan of heights’ threw herself out of a plane at 15,000 feet to do a sky dive in aid of Hospiscare. So far she has raised £668.75 (incl gift aid). An amazing achievement I am sure you would agree.

A massive thank you to Karen Gutans, Mike Gutans and Karen Nichols who cycled over 1000 miles, from Lands End to John O’Groats. They were in the saddle for nearly 90 hours and suffered ear infections, mechanical problems, and hypothermia, amongst other things. So far Karen has raised an amazing £2,681.25p (inc gift aid) for Hospiscare. An incredible effort!

Paul Hawkins who, following the overwhelming success of his Challenge 2016 last year, embarked upon the Devon Coast to Coast walk with his father. This walk combines both The Two Moors Way, which runs between Lynmouth and Ivybridge, and The Erme-Plym trail which continues on to Wembury. Thank you for your continued support.

An enormous thank you to Darts Farm who raised an incredible £4,268.45p through their ‘pick your own sunflowers’ campaign.

Thanks also to Mike and Ruth at Field House who opened their garden 3 times over the Hospiscare Open Gardens season, the last time being  Saturday 2nd September. Their lovely garden and delicious teas were very much enjoyed by a great many visitors and they have raised £982.54 for our patients and their families.

We love seeing all that you do for Hospiscare so, if you are planning on doing any fundraising, please direct message us on Facebook or email so that we can recognise your efforts. We couldn’t do what we do without you.
