Freedom to Speak Up

Freedom to Speak Up is about encouraging a positive culture where people feel they can speak up and their voices will be heard, and their suggestions acted upon.

At Hospiscare we’re dedicated to providing the best possible care to our patients, their loved ones and our staff and volunteers. One way in which we do this is through the national Freedom to Speak Up Guardian initiative. This provides a way for any staff and volunteers to raise any concerns with us in confidence.

It’s important that we all feel able to speak up to stop potential harm or to say when things could be better. This may be related to:

  • Unsafe patient care
  • Unsafe working conditions or breaches of Health and Safety
  • Inadequate induction or training for staff
  • Lack of, or poor response to, a reported patient safety incident
  • Suspicions of fraud
  • Concerns that someone maybe covering up wrongdoing

If you have a concern about a potential risk or wrongdoing that could harm our patients, people or practice or an idea to improve how we do things, you can confidentially raise it with one of our ‘Speak Up’ guardians.
