Complementary therapies

Complementary therapies

We understand the importance of holistic care and know just how valuable human touch, conversation and relaxation can be in times of emotional stress. We aim to provide a nurturing space and our range of therapies can also help to ease physical symptoms.

We apologise that our complementary therapy services are currently suspended as a precaution to protect our patients, staff and volunteers, during the coronavirus pandemic.

If you are a Hospiscare patient or carer, or are recently bereaved, we may be able to offer you complementary therapies for free. These can help to:

  • Reduce stress and tension
  • Promote relaxation
  • Lift and energise your mood
  • Improve sleep
  • Ease pain and other symptoms

The main complementary therapies we offer are massage, reflexology, reiki and relaxation therapy. In some cases we use essential oils to fragrance the therapy rooms and create a serene and peaceful environment.

Massage

Massage is a hands-on therapy that can ease aches, pains and stiffness. It’s also very relaxing so can help with emotional tiredness.

Reflexology

A reflexologist uses their fingers to apply gentle pressure to specific points on your hands or feet which correlate to certain body parts and systems. This is particularly beneficial if areas of concern are too tender to touch. Reflexology is a very popular treatment for deep relaxation and can help to boost your mood.

Reiki

Reiki is a hands-off treatment that aims to promote relaxation and a balanced sense of wellbeing by moving energy around the body. It’s extremely gentle and therefore a good alternative to massage if you’re feeling particularly weak.

Relaxation Therapy

This combination of listening, guided visualisations and attention to breathing can help you to feel calmer. It’s a really useful treatment for those experiencing high levels of stress or anxiety.

Our complementary therapists

We have two professional complementary therapists, who are supported by a team of trained, qualified and insured volunteers.
