Hospiscare Heroes – From remembrance raffles to marathon miles!

Our Hospiscare Heroes have been flexing their superpowers to support our charity in an incredible variety of ways

Our Hospiscare Heroes are truly super; week after week, they support our local charity with their fundraising endeavours across Exeter, Mid and East Devon, ensuring we can be there for our patients and their families when they need us most.

From all of us at Hospiscare, we are sending a huge thank you to all of our Hospiscare Heroes. Read on to find out how they have been flexing their superpowers this week.

Firstly, we need to pay a special honour to Team Hospiscare who tackled the London Marathon at the weekend. Some were racing in memory of a loved one and wanted the care they experienced to be passed on to others facing the challenge of a terminal diagnosis, while others wanted to help safeguard our services, so that we can be there for our community when they need us most. Ben, Thom, Libby, Rebecca, Nick, Emma, Aileen, Kate and Phil all took the marathon in their stride and collectively, they’ve raised an amazing £24,525.46!

We’d like to say a MASSIVE thank you to Team Hospiscare for all the hard work that went into their Marathon journey, from hours spent training whatever the weather to all their fundraising efforts. They’ve really done Hospiscare proud!

If this group of Hospiscare Heroes has left you feeling inspired, why not seize the day and enter the ballot for the 2025 London Marathon? You have until Friday 26 April to sign up for 2025.

Find out more on our website here.

When we asked what they would say to someone thinking about entering the ballot for the London Marathon 2025 – one  2024 Hospiscare Hero came straight back with: “I’ve already entered!”

The London Marathon wasn’t the only race that took place on Sunday! Hospiscare Heroes Aimee, Karen and Paul tackled the Green Lantern Exeter Half Marathon in memory of their Mum, Sonia. Hospiscare helped care for Sonia at home at the end of her life, and the trio of siblings felt inspired to fundraise so that other local people and their families could experience the same vital care.

Aimee explains:

“Despite our aching joints, dodgy knees and a distaste for long runs, Karen, Paul and myself [completed] the half marathon in Mum’s memory. She would have relished the thought of us doing this together”

Together, they have raised a wonderful £2,197 to help fund end of life and palliative care across Exeter, Mid and East Devon.

If you’d like to show your support, you can find Aimee’s JustGiving page here.

Finally, we would like to thank Ashleigh Berry and Erin Berry who have raised over £2200 for Hospiscare with a fundraiser in memory of their mother Sue. Hospiscare cared for Sue and supported her family. This year would have been Sue’s 60th birthday so Ashleigh and Erin organised a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses. Thank you so much for organising such a generous fundraiser and providing such an impressive donation. This will enable Hospiscare to continue to provide specialist care and support to more people and their families locally.

You can find Sue’s tribute page and make a donation here.

Thank you to all our Hospiscare Heroes on behalf of our staff, patients, and their loved ones.
