The popular former nurse from Exeter is now celebrating seven years of survival after being diagnosed with an inoperable brain stem tumour in 2010. "I never expected to make it this far,” Gemma has said. “Only 3% of people with my diagnosis make it past three years so to get to seven years is amazing.” On her 30th birthday, her friends organised a festival-themed birthday party for Gemma and named it Gemfest. Since then it has become an annual fundraising event.
The next festival will be held on Sunday 16th April 2017 and is being sponsored by local roofing firm Single Ply Structures. Gemfest is a festival of two halves. The daytime (11am-4pm) is a family orientated event for children of all ages. Entry for this part of the day is a £1 donation per person (under 2s free) which includes a ticket for the raffle. The evening event runs from 6pm until late. Entry for this part of the day is £10.
