Men’s Walk: Double Locks

Men’s Walk: Double Locks

An 8-mile walk starting at the Double Locks, but with a few tweaks to make sure the event is COVID-19 compliant.

We’re looking forward to Men’s Walk at Double Locks (hopefully!) going ahead as it has done in previous years, pre COVID-19. That means an 8-mile walk starting and finishing at Double Locks with your Men’s Walk t-shirt, a pint from Exeter Brewery, a pasty from Chunk of Devon and the Six Nations England v. Ireland game on the big screens. Rest assured, we’ll be following all the latest official advice to ensure Men’s Walk is COVID-19 compliant, helping to keep you, our staff and volunteers, and our wider community as safe as possible. Closer to the event we will be able to provide full details of any changes we need to make but if you have any questions in the meantime, please contact us at events@hospiscare.co.uk.

Please note: Should Men’s Walk: Double Locks event option not be able to go ahead, for example if COVID-19 restrictions are reintroduced, all participants will be automatically switched to the Men’s Walk: Your Route event option or a full refund. A final decision regarding Men’s Walk at Double Locks going ahead will be made at least two weeks prior to the event.

COVID-19 measures

COVID-19 measures

Your safety, and that of our volunteers and staff, is paramount and therefore we will have a number of common sense COVID-19 measures in place, such as hand sanitising stations, the use of masks and gloves where appropriate, and no on-the-day registrations. We recommend you bring your own hand sanitiser and face mask to the Men’s Walk at Double Locks event. We are currently reviewing the use of the NHS COVID Pass at the Double Locks event and will advise participants closer to the event if these will be required.
We are continuing to monitor the COVID-19 situation carefully. Closer to the event we will be able to provide full details of any changes we need to make but if you have any questions in the meantime, please get in touch with us at events@hospiscare.co.uk.

Double Locks Information

Double Locks Information

Situated in stunning surroundings on Exeter Canal, Double Locks cannot be beaten as the location for our Men’s Walk start and finish. The address is Double Locks, Canal Banks, Exeter EX2 6LT.

Please plan how you’re going to get to the Men’s Walk at Double Locks event for two reasons:
1. There is strictly no on-site parking available as the normal Double Locks car park is used as part of the event space. If you’re being dropped off or getting a taxi, please read the diversion information below and also note there is no space at Double Locks for vehicles to turn around on the event day. If you are disabled or have reduced mobility, please liaise with us regarding access prior to the event by emailing events@hospiscare.co.uk or calling us on 01392 688020 to discuss specific arrangements.
2. There is currently a vehicle diversion in place to access Double Locks, which is due to the development of Marsh Barton train station. This means the bridge over the railway tracks joining Marsh Barton to the entry road at Double Locks is currently closed to vehicles (you can still walk and cycle over the bridge, only vehicle access is diverted). A diversion is in place via Water Lane. The diversion is clearly sign-posted and is a single track road with passing places that runs alongside the west side of the canal.

What to bring

What to bring

Please bring your walker number (complete with contact information on the back) that will have been posted to you, plus your own face mask and hand sanitiser. Although we will have hand sanitiser readily available at the Double Locks, having your own is essential for helping to keep you and others safe throughout the day. Please also bring a refillable hydrating drink / bottle, such as water to take on your walk. We also suggest you carry a fully charged mobile phone in case of emergency.

There are lots of different volunteer roles, including out on the route and at the event site, and the atmosphere is always amazing! Please get in touch at events@hospiscare.co.uk. Thank you!

What's the route?

We’re just working on the final 8 mile route, which will be available to view here soon. However the route will start and finish at the Double Locks following many of the riverside paths as far as Station Road near St David’s Station.
