Hospiscare Heroes – From triathlons to Rotary Club donations

Our Hospiscare Heroes have been as busy as ever, finding innovative ways to fund raise for our charity at this difficult time

Our Hospiscare Heroes are truly super; week after week, they support our charity with their fundraising endeavours across Exeter, Mid and East Devon. From all of us at Hospiscare, we are sending a huge thank you to all of our Hospiscare Heroes. Read on to find out how they have been flexing their super powers this week.

A Rotary Club cheque presentation

We are sending a huge thank you to The Rotary Club of Exeter for their recent donation of £500 towards our SOS Emergency Appeal. President of The Rotary Club, Bernard Frowd, says “Although, at present, a relatively small but active Rotary Club, we can justly be proud of our 100 year tradition and record of providing financial and physical support for those in need in the Exeter area. We hope, and believe, that many local companies, groups and individuals will follow our early lead by responding to the current and ongoing requirements of our local hospice, Hospiscare, a much loved organisation and one vital to the needs of Exeter people.”

We would also like to send our thanks to Will Luxton who undertook his first ever triathlon on behalf of Hospiscare on 12 September in memory of his dad, Mark. Will hoped to raise £1,500 but smashed his target by raising over £3,000! Cathy, Will’s mum, says “We as a family will be eternally grateful to the support we received from Hospiscare over Christmas 2019. Mark was in your family room and you provided a lovely Christmas lunch for the whole family, and my daughter’s baby and Mark’s dog were there too. Our last Christmas was far better than it might have been thanks to Hospiscare.”

A huge Christmas tree being unloaded by a lorry

Last week, our Tree of Lights found its home on Exeter’s Cathedral Green as part of our Light up a Life celebration.

We would like to send our grateful thanks to W H Squires for sponsoring Light up a Life 2021. Thank you also to Exeter Cathedral for hosting our beautiful tree. We would also like to thank Clinton Devon Estates for donating this spectacular specimen of a Christmas tree and we are so grateful to Sherwoods SW Ltd for making sure that the lights on our tree shine brightly in memory of loved ones who are no longer with us. We are also sending a thank you to our own Hospiscare Estates Team, Andy and Ian, for their help in getting the tree up and making it safe for us all to enjoy.

Thank you to the Heaver Brothers for transporting and putting up our Tree of Lights outside Exeter Cathedral.

Finally, we are sending a huge thank you to Tanya Perry and all of the volunteers and young people that attend Axminster New Youth Club at the Pippins Community Centre. The members of the youth club donated their entry fee to Hospiscare on 2 November and they also encouraged their friends and family to donate lots of amazing raffle prize items for future events.
