Hospiscare Heroes – From fetes to thank yous!

Our Hospiscare Heroes have been flexing their superpowers to support our charity in an incredible variety of ways

Our Hospiscare Heroes are truly super; week after week, they support our local charity with their fundraising endeavours across Exeter, Mid and East Devon, ensuring we can be there for our patients and their families when they need us most.

From all of us at Hospiscare, we are sending a huge thank you to all of our Hospiscare Heroes. Read on to find out how they have been flexing their superpowers this week.

Firstly, we would like to say a huge thank you to the volunteers that continue to support us. We really could not operate without you! This September Hospiscare is hosting a series of ‘thank you’ coffee mornings for our brilliant volunteers. These mornings are ways to pay a small token of thanks to the massive contribution volunteers provide for the hospice and charity. The above photo was taken at the coffee morning held at King’s House, Honiton, our East Devon Hub on the 13 September. It was a great opportunity to share ideas and information amongst attendees from the Board of Trustees, Senior Management, Fundraising and Volunteering. All whilst enjoying a comforting hot drink and baked treat!

Those pictured are as followed: Wayne Gale (Operations Director and Deputy CEO), Toni Hiscocks (East Devon Area Fundraiser),  Dr Helen Enright (Trustee), Andrew Randall (CEO) and volunteers; Mary, Kevin, Trevor and Gaynor. Thank you to everyone who made the event a success. We look forward to further coffee mornings this month!

On Saturday 26 August, Otter Vale Friends of Hospiscare held their annual fete at Cadhay. The fete was opened by Chair of the Hospiscare trustees,  Mr Brian Aird. Mr Aird paid his own thank you message saying “we couldn’t do this fundraising without our volunteers. We thank you all and are so proud that you give up your time to help us every year”. Hospiscare depends on the support of volunteers and we are all so grateful for the support which comes from our community.

The fete had a variety of stalls, live music, a BBQ and a tea room (which proved very popular!) We would like to pay a special mention to the volunteers running the successful Plant and Produce stall which raised an incredible £768 alone. The produce just kept coming and selling! Thank you to those who were busy making and donating jam, marmalades and chutneys for the stall.

We would like to thank Mr Rupert Thistlewayte for again allowing use the beautiful gardens and facilities at Cadhay. On the day guides also provided visitors tours of the house with proceeds donated to Hospiscare.

It was a wonderful day, with so many people attending the fete and so many volunteers giving up their time to help us raise money for such a vital service. The amount raised was an outstanding £6913! Thank you to all those who donated, supported and volunteered at this years fete. This really shows the power of community fundraising and what can be done when supporters come together. Your support enables the ongoing specialist services Hospiscare provides in our patch of Devon.

Finally, we would like to show appreciation to those who braved the challenging weather conditions last weekend. The Dartmoor Drop successfully went ahead with a total of 52 participants braving the 110ft abseil at Meldon Viaduct near Okehampton. A huge thank you to the all the adventurous supporters who signed up, fundraised and took on the challenge for Hospiscare! We would also like to give a special mention to Hospiscare’s very own staff members for taking part and their amazing fundraising efforts. It is great to see supporters, volunteers and staff so dedicated to our cause.

We are pleased to share we have exceeded our fundraising target of £15,000, raising almost £19,000 and counting. There was a really great atmosphere over the weekend despite the conditions.

As always, we could not continue to provide our specialist services without the support and help at these events. Thank you to everyone who was involved in making the Dartmoor Drop a huge success.

Thank you to all our Hospiscare Heroes on behalf of our staff, patients, and their loved ones.
