Hospiscare Heroes – From head shaves to flower donations

Our Hospiscare Heroes have been flexing their super powers to support our charity in an incredible variety of ways

Our Hospiscare Heroes are truly super; week after week, they support our local charity with their fundraising endeavours across Exeter, Mid and East Devon, ensuring we can be there for our patients and their families when they need us most.

From all of us at Hospiscare, we are sending a huge thank you to all of our Hospiscare Heroes. Read on to find out how they have been flexing their superpowers this week.

A man and a nurse by buckets of flowers

We would like to send a huge thank you to Sainsbury’s, Alphington, and their Store Manager, Mark Prout, for regularly donating beautiful flowers to Hospiscare that we can sell to raise vital funds. We would also like to thank our wonderful volunteer, Brian (pictured above), for collecting the flowers every week.

A man and a girl scout doing wood work

Over the last few weeks, members of Escot Troop from 1st Ottery St Mary Scout Group, the Men’s Shed Ottery and local businesses Abbott’s and Smart Build Supplies Ltd have come together in a wonderful community venture to raise £133 for Hospiscare.

Members of the Men’s Shed Ottery welcomed the Scouts into their workshop, where they supported the young people to create wooden Christmas trees. Local Ottery businesses supported the venture, providing saws, wood offcuts and paint.

A group of scouts and adults with a big cheque

The Scouts had a great time, learning new skills and connecting with the wonderful volunteers at the Men’s Shed.  Laughter, creativity, sawing, hammering, painting and biscuit eating were shared by the generations, resulting in a set of dazzling trees. The Scouts sold their trees and raised a fantastic £133 for Hospiscare.

The young people wanted to say a massive thank you once again to all those involved at the Men’s Shed Ottery, the local businesses, and the parent volunteers.

Three men preparing for a head shave

Thank you to everyone who recently supported and donated to Ross Lambeth and Behn Wright’s head shave for Hospiscare, held at Wolseley Parts Center, Exmouth. Ross chose to support Hospiscare as his niece, Freya Sampson, suffers from Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and when asked by her uncle which charity she would like to choose, Freya named Hospiscare as our specialist nursing team cared for Ross’s dad (Freya’s Grandad) in December 2015.

The event was a huge success and has raised £3,025 to date! We are also sending a special thank you to Kerry at Exmouth Barbers for wielding the clippers!

A collage of Christmas jumper photos

Finally, we would like to say a big thank you to the team at Coastal Recycling who held a Christmas jumper day in aid of our local charity. As you can see, members of staff from across the business were rocking their Christmas jumper look!
