Hospiscare Heroes – From hairy shaves to art sales

Our Hospiscare Heroes have been as busy as ever, finding innovative ways to fund raise for our charity at this difficult time

Our Hospiscare Heroes are truly super; week after week, they support our charity with their fundraising endeavours across Exeter, Mid and East Devon. From all of us at Hospiscare, we are sending a huge thank you to all of our Hospiscare Heroes. Read on to find out how they have been flexing their super powers this week.

Two photos of a man when he was hairy and after a hair cut and beard tidy

We are sending a huge thank you to Colin Rowland and all of the team at the Mid Devon Show for their support. We are the Charity of the Year for the Mid Devon Show and the show’s president, Colin Rowland, let his hair and beard grow during lockdown with the aim of raising some funds for us with the big shave.

Colin went from the ‘caged creature’ above to the much tidier show president we know so well. Colin says, “I shall never grow a bear again – I promise! I would like to personally thank all of the people that have sponsored me in my quest to raise funds for the show’s chosen charity, Hospiscare. Hospiscare do the most amazing job, helping people in their final days that suffer from end-of-life illnesses.”

We are also sending our grateful thanks to Dr Howard Friend who held a sale of his beautiful lockdown paintings in aid of Hospiscare. Howard has raised an incredible £1,430 for our local charity. Thank you Howard and thank you to everyone who helped make the sale such a great success.

We are also sending our thanks to Annette Mawson who opened her lovely garden in Thorverton and raised £150 for our patients.

We would like to say Happy Birthday and a huge thank you to one of our lovely Hospiscare Open Gardeners, Gill Bricknell, who had a birthday celebration on 15 June and raised an amazing £315 for Hospsicare.

Finally, thank you to Co-op on Exeter Road in Exmouth for passing on their surplus plants to us. The nursing team at High View Gardens in Exmouth have raised £25.45 from them.
