Hospiscare Heroes – From donations to remembrance walks

Our Hospiscare Heroes have been flexing their superpowers to support our charity in an incredible variety of ways

Our Hospiscare Heroes are truly super; week after week, they support our local charity with their fundraising endeavours across Exeter, Mid and East Devon, ensuring we can be there for our patients and their families when they need us most.

From all of us at Hospiscare, we are sending a huge thank you to all of our Hospiscare Heroes. Read on to find out how they have been flexing their superpowers this week.

First up this week, we would like to express our gratitude to Honiton Round Table for their generous donation of £500 to our local charity. Area Fundraiser, Toni Hiscocks, collected the donation from Mark Richards, a member of the Round Table, on a gloriously sunny day in Devon. Thank you for your support!

Taking on a challenge in memory of a loved one is such a special thing to do and this week, we’d like to thank Becky, Tony, Margie, Sophie and Alex for taking on their very own 20 Mile Remembrance Walk.

Becky explained: “The nurses and carers from Exeter Hospiscare were amazingly supportive when Jenny came home from hospital for the last 3 weeks of her life. We want to do something special to remember her and to say thank you.”

Becky, Tony, Margie, Sophie and Alex have so far raised £1,090 in Jenny’s memory and we are so grateful to them for going the distance for Hospiscare.

Hospiscare’s Helen Gough and her friends Laura and Lisa, recently took on the Lake District Ultra Challenge, a 50km hike across the Lake District with an elevation of 1300 meters – in one day!

They began their journey at Kendal then headed north up the Sleddle Valley, over the testing Garburn Pass, which offered stunning views from the top; before following on to Windermere and Ambleside and carrying on west to Lake Windermere with stunning views across the water, before finishing at Lakeside.

Despite the scorching weather, challenging hills and tricky terrain, the friends managed to complete the challenge and raised £895 and counting for Hospiscare. Congratulations and thank you for being true Hospiscare Heroes!

And finally, we’re sending a huge THANK YOU to the La La Leapers! Not one, not two, but 21 incredible Hospiscare Heroes took to the skies on Sunday 4 June and completed a 10,000ft skydive.

Amid whoops, cheers and even spontaneous song, the team all made it back safely down to earth and have raised over £16,500 and counting to support local end-of-life care.

La La Choirs leader, Sam, said: “Some of our members have experienced the care [Hospiscare] provide, first hand. Their expertise combined with their generosity of time and spirit means the whole family get to be supported and experience the best of deaths, which is everyone’s right.”

Every day matters and as members of the Hospiscare 40 Club 2023, La La Choirs are proving that the sky’s the limit when you put your mind to it!

If you’re feeling inspired, why not take on a challenge of your own – or show your support and make a donation?

Thank you to all our Hospiscare Heroes on behalf of our staff, patients, and their loved ones.
