Hospiscare Heroes – A tree-mendous thank you!

We are sending a special thank you to these truly tree-mendous Hospiscare Heroes...

Our Hospiscare Heroes are truly super; week after week, they support our local charity with their fundraising endeavours across Exeter, Mid and East Devon and help to save our services for the future. Every pound raised can help keep our vital care service running for local people in need.

This week, we are sending out a special tree-related thank you to all of those who were part of our Christmas Tree Recycling initiative and to everyone who was involved with our Tree of Light and Light up a Life celebrations.

Thank you to everyone who supported Light up a Life 2021. The Tree of Light has now been taken down until next Christmas.

We would like to say a huge thank you to our partners, Exeter Cathedral, for hosting the tree. We would like to thank Light up a Life’s sponsor, Walter H Squires, for their generous support. Our thanks also go to Clinton Devon Estates as they generously donate a tree to Hospiscare every year for Light up a Life. Thank you to Sherwoods for supplying the tree’s lights and the Heaver Brothers for transporting the tree. Finally, thank you to Coastal Recycling for recycling the Tree of Light.

We are sending out a huge thank you to everyone involved in our Christmas Tree Recycling initiative. On Friday 7 and Saturday 8 January, our amazing team of volunteers made their way across Exeter, Exmouth and Honiton collecting Christmas trees in exchange for a donation to Hospiscare.

This mammoth recycling effort saw a whopping 1,200 trees collected by our 50 fantastic volunteers and together, over £16,000 was raised for our local hospice charity!

We are sending a huge thank you to all of the people who signed up their trees and donated to raise this fantastic amount of money for our charity.

We are also sending our thanks to all of the local businesses whose employees volunteered over the weekend – we simply could not have done it without you:

Thank you to Jules Phillips and Helen Manning from Taylor Lewis for volunteering to collect Christmas trees. Thank you also to Gavin Darke from Eco Energy Systems SW Ltd for loaning them a van for their collections. We are also super grateful to Helen for wearing such a fitting hat for the occasion!

Thank you to Throw and Tow for volunteering and providing a van.

Thank you also to Shift It Waste Ltd, Travis Perkins, Thomson Reuters and World of Country Life for their fantastic volunteers. We may not have managed to snap a picture of you all in action, but we are so grateful to you all for donating your time.

We are also sending our thanks to our wonderful suppliers for allowing us to use everything from vans to wood chippers free of charge:

Finally, thank you to World of Country Life, the University of Exeter and Foundry Yard in Honiton for being our designated drop-off sites. The majority of the trees are being chipped at the University of Exeter by Bicton College students to be re-used on the green spaces on campus.
