2019: A busy year for Hospiscare shops

From shop refits to pop-up galleries, 2019 has been a busy year for Hospiscare shops.

2019 has been a busy year in the Hospiscare shops team. We’ve put together a quick round-up of the highlights for the year.

Shop Refits

Two Hospiscare shops got a new look this year reflecting our new branding.

Back in March, the Seaton Hospiscare volunteers celebrated the shop’s new look with a cup of tea and a slice of cake.  The volunteers were delighted with the new layout of the shop and they’ve had lots of lovely comments from customers. Read the full story here.

In May the Hospiscare Ottery St Mary shop was opened by long-serving volunteer, Margaret, who has been volunteering in the shop since it opened 28 years ago. Shop manager, Claire, says,

“We have increased our stock levels dramatically while still keeping the spacious feel.  This has led to higher daily sales, and therefore more money going to our patients and their families. On re-opening day alone shop sales were over £800!”

Am Afif Pop up Gallery

Hospiscare’s Exeter Warehouse in Marsh Barton transformed the shop area into a unique gallery space to display the work of local artist, Am Afifi. The Hospiscare House Clearance team received a generous donation of over 100 works from the artist’s family. Shop manager, Craig, explains,

“It was definitely something a bit different for us. The family of the artist were kind enough to give us this incredibly generous donation via the Hospiscare House Clearance service so we thought it would be lovely to make an event of it.”

Thanks to our wonderful volunteers!

This year our wonderful volunteers have given a total of 65,962 hours of their time to volunteer in either a Hospiscare shop or our warehouse in Marsh Barton. We rely on the support of our amazing volunteers. They help us sort and steam clothes, untangle jewellery, serve customers on the till and much much more.

Warehouse volunteer, Di, says,

“I love volunteering! The staff in the warehouse are so lovely and welcoming, and it’s great fun. It’s also nice to know I’m helping raise money for an important and worthwhile cause.”

Thank you to our lovely customers and supporters!

We’re so grateful for the support of local people who help us to raise money by donating items and shopping in their local Hospiscare shop. In the last year, our shops sold 8,164 pairs of ladies shoes, 99 washing machines, 2,834 mens jackets and coats and 119,751 homeware items, raising important funds for the charity!

We also received a donation of over £220 from Amazon thanks to customers who supported Hospiscare with Amazon Smile. Click here to choose Hospiscare as your charity it’s so easy to do, so every time you shop on Amazon you can help raise money for Hospiscare.

Last but not least a grand total of 3,788 of our supporters signed up as Gift Aiders to help us raise an extra 25p for every £1 their donations raise.

A massive thank you to all our volunteers, staff and supporters. We really couldn’t have done it without you!
