Leave a gift in your Will

Leave a gift in your Will

By remembering Hospiscare in your Will, you’ll be helping to support terminally ill people in your local area for generations to come.

“I have nothing but praise and admiration for all involved. In my eyes, they are all heroes who made a potentially traumatic situation bearable – uplifting even. I am so, so grateful.”

We support 2,000 people a year across the heart of Devon. But we can only do it thanks to the generosity of our supporters. We don’t charge patients a penny for the care we give them, but only 15% of our costs are funded by the NHS.

Can you help us to keep providing care?

It’s easier than you might think to leave us a gift in your Will, and we’re a local charity, so your gift will help people right here in Devon.

Kirsty was diagnosed with asbestos cancer in her 30s. When it became clear her cancer was terminal, she turned to Hospiscare for support. Kirsty told us,

“To be told that you have any type of cancer is scary, but one that is very unusual and rare for someone your age is really scary … It has meant so much to have somewhere safe to come and somebody safe to talk to.”

One in five of our patients is cared for thanks to gifts in Wills. We’re grateful for each and every donation. If you’d like to find out more about leaving your own legacy, you’ll find all the information you need on these pages. Or just contact the Legacy Gift team on 01392 688020 or legacyinfo@hospiscare.co.uk.

Do I really need a Will?

Whether you decide to leave a gift to charity or not, it’s important to make a Will. Without one, you won’t have any say in what happens to your money, property and possessions after you die.

It’s easier (and cheaper) than you might think to make a Will.

“The solicitors were very friendly and approachable and talked us through everything we needed to consider. Our affairs are now in order. Should anything happen to me and my husband, our children will know that we cared enough to make sure they would be okay.”

How much does it cost to write a Will?

We recommend using a solicitor to write your Will, which usually costs from £200. In most cases, you’ll meet with the solicitor for about an hour, either in person or over the phone.

During our ‘Wills Fortnight’ in June, lots of local solicitors waive their usual fee so that you can make a donation to Hospiscare instead. In previous years, solicitors have taken part in:

  • Exeter
  • Exmouth
  • Cullompton
  • Ottery St Mary
  • Newton Abbot
  • Honiton
  • Seaton
  • Sidmouth
  • Tiverton
  • Topsham

Are there tax benefits to leaving money to a charity?

Charitable legacies are exempt from tax. In some cases they can even reduce your inheritance tax bill. (See this Money Advice Service guide for more details.)

If you do choose to remember Hospiscare in your Will, thank you. Your gift will help local people during an incredibly challenging time.
