How are you making the Twilight with a Twist live event in Exmouth a safe event?

The safety of our walkers, volunteers and staff is paramount and we will be continually assessing the safety of the event as well as following all current government guidelines to ensure the event is COVID-19 compliant. Based on the current government guidance regarding easing of COVID-19 restrictions live events should be able to resume from 21 June 2021. It is likely that the following safety measures will apply to Twilight:

  • Complying with all current government guidelines
  • Majority of the event held outdoors
  • Face covering in any indoor / covered space
  • Hand sanitising stations
  • Use of face masks, shields and gloves where / if appropriate
  • Toilet use management including hand drying
  • The use one way systems across site
  • Avoiding shared equipment
  • Cleaning procedure for frequent touch items
  • Possible use of COVID-19 testing
  • Extensive COVID-19 Risk Assessment

Measures are being reviewed ongoing and will be adapted to reflect the changing COVID-19 situation and to meet the government guidelines at the time of the event. Closer to the event we will be able to provide the full confirmed details but if you have any questions in the meantime please feel free to contact us on Events@Hospiscare.co.uk

Please note: If the live event isn’t able to go ahead, for example if we return to lockdown, all participants will be able to either switch to walk their own Twilight with a Twist route or be offered a full refund. A final decision regarding the live event will be made at least two weeks prior to the event.

We expect all our walkers will be back to Manor Gardens at approximately 9pm to enjoy the after party until around 10:30pm.

Besides my Twilight t-shirt, what should I wear?

First and foremost a good pair of walking shoes or boots is essential (waterproof would be even better). Comfortable bottoms are also important; shorts, leggings or trousers – whatever works for you and is suitable for the weather that day. The weather can be really unpredictable even in the British summer so wearing something versatile or layers are a good idea, especially as it gets cooler in the evening. The dress code for this year’s event is glitter and sparkle, so get ready to out-shine the stars!

What should I bring to Twilight with a Twist in Exmouth?

Please bring:

  • A refillable drinks bottle
  • Your mobile phone
  • A torch or light (parts of the cycle path aren’t lit)
  • A portable phone charger if you have one
  • A face mask
  • Hand sanitiser
  • Any snacks you might want to eat on the route

We will have hand sanitiser readily available at the event arena but having your own is essential for keeping your hands sanitised throughout the day. We will follow the current government guidance at the time regarding face masks.

Can I register for Twilight with a Twist on the day?

Unfortunately not; we need all participants to have registered in advance for Twilight with a Twist. Signs ups for our live Twilight event in Exmouth will close on Wednesday 7 July and registrations for anyone walking a ‘your way’ route of their choice in other locations will close on Sunday 4 July so we can be sure of getting your walker’s kit posted to you in time for your walk.

Can I get food and drink at the live event in Exmouth?

There will be food and drink available to purchase from different vendors after the walk. There will also be a pit stop providing providing drinks and access to toilets at just over 8 miles on the 13 mile route.

What are the route options for the Twilight live event in Exmouth?

There are two route options this year: a 6 mile route and a 13 mile route. Whichever route your taking on, we’ve included our favourite views in both so you’re not missing out!

13 mile route

The 13 mile route starts and finishes in Manor Gardens, with picturesque views of the seafront, marina and estuary to enjoy along the way. Travelling as far as Exton, this route celebrates the natural beauty of the estuary including a truly beautiful sun set.

6 mile route
The 6 mile route starts and finishes at Manor Gardens and includes a beautiful walk along the seafront, around the marina and through gorgeous local green spaces.

Route maps will be available to view here soon.

What is the terrain like for the 6 and 13 mile route options in Exmouth?

The 6 mile route is largely flat and uses a combination of public walking paths and shared paths. These paths are often used by cyclists and therefore single file walking on the right hand side of the path is required. Care must be taken when walking nearby to the seafront, marina and estuary. This route is suitable for wheel chair users.

The 13 mile route starts with an incline section (Fox Holes Hill, 121 ft.) where walkers will use roadside paths. Once the top of the hill has been reached, there are ramps taking you down to the seafront to join onto the walking path. These paths will eventually lead onto flat shared paths where walkers will be required to walk in single file in narrow areas whilst always keeping to the right hand side to avoid cyclists. Care must be taken when walking nearby to the seafront, marina and estuary. If you’re a wheel chair user please contact us so we can talk you through the specifics of the route and to check suitability – email events@hospiscare.co.uk or phone 01392 688020.

How long will the route options for the Twilight live event in Exmouth take?

The 13 mile route should take 5 hours at an average walking pace with a rest stop included. The 6 mile route should take 2.5 hours at an average walking pace with a rest stop included.

What if I can’t finish one of routes at the live event in Exmouth?

If you feel like you can’t finish the route then you can pull out at any point. If you do this you’ll need to inform the nearest volunteer or marshal or ring the number on the Emergency Contact Information (provided to you at the event) to let us know.

Will there be first aid support at the live Twilight event in Exmouth?

Yes, we will have first aiders on site and out along the route. If you need first aid you’ll have to let a route marshal know, or ring the number on the Emergency Contact Information (provided to you at the event).

Who should I call if there’s a serious accident or incident at the live Twilight event in Exmouth?

If it’s severe or an emergency then please ring 999 as quickly as possible.

Will there be toilet facilities along the Twilight routes in Exmouth?

There will be toilets for you to use at Manor Gardens where the walks starts and finishes as well as on the 13 mile route at the pit stop (at just over 8 miles). There route also passes public toilets in a couple of locations.

How will the Twilight with a Twist ‘your way’ option work?

Twilighters doing the ‘Your Way’ option rather than the live event in Exmouth can walk in any location you like, as long as it’s within current government guidelines. We suggest you plan your walk location and route in advance and consider the following:

  • Walk a route that is a safe and sensible distance for you and appropriate to your fitness level
  • Plan to walk a route that is open to the public, easily accessible and well-lit
  • Ideally do not walk alone
  • Carry a mobile phone in case of emergency
  • Only walk in appropriate weather (avoid rain and hot temperatures) and wear appropriate clothing and footwear
  • Take a hydrating drink on your walk and avoid alcohol consumption
  • Be respectful of social distancing at all times

Can we walk as a group at Twilight?

We currently hope that you will be able to walk in groups, but this will depend on the government guidelines at the time and could mean that you can only walk as a group of six or pair as a maximum. We will provide full guidance nearer the event. If you’re walking your own route for Twilight with a Twist please ensure the size of your groups adheres to government guidelines at the time.

Can I bring my dog?

Of course! However all dogs must remain on a lead in Manor Gardens and leave nothing but paw prints behind!

How will the Twilight Strava Club work?

Strava is a free activity tracking app, so you record your Twilight Walk on the app as well as share it in the Twilight Walk Strava Club.

Do I need to raise sponsorship money?

Your entry fee only covers the cost of the event, so we ask each participant to raise sponsorship money or donate £50. Your fundraising or donation will make a huge difference to the lives of our patients and their families, for example £51 could fund a home visit from one of our specialist community nurses. We currently need your support more than ever.

To set up a JustGiving fundraising page please click here.

How do I set up an online fundraising page?

The easiest way to get started with your fundraising is to set up a JustGiving page and share it with your friends and family on social media! Don’t worry if you haven’t done this before, we’ve already done some of the work for you! Just click here to set up your page.

Can I Gift Aid my sponsorship?

You can ask each person who sponsors you to Gift Aid their donation by asking them to tick the Gift Aid box on the sponsorship form or tick the relevant section on JustGiving. Any personal donations are eligible for Gift Aid as long as they’ve filled in their home (not work) address and postcode, otherwise we won’t be able to claim Gift Aid. If people are donating to your JustGiving page the option to Gift Aid will appear during the donation process.

How should I pay in my sponsorship?

We won’t be able to take cash donation and sponsorship money on the day this year, but the good news is that fundraising online via JustGiving (or other platforms) is really easy to do and they automatically send us the money you’ve raised. If you’re fundraising offline and would like to pay in sponsorship money you can either: head to https://www.hospiscare.co.uk/donate/ and select ‘I have taken part in a sponsored event’ and write Twilight Walk in the box or send a cheque payable to Hospiscare to Hospiscare, Searle House, Dryden Road, Exeter, EX2 5JJ along with your sponsorship form. Thank you!

Can I swap from the Twilight live event in Exmouth to walking a Twilight route of my own in my area?

Of course, but please let us know. Each space at the Twilight live event is allocated so letting us know will allow us to reallocate your space and we can ensure your Twilight kit is posted out to you.

How old do I need to be to take part in Twilight Walk?

Entry to the Twilight Walk is open to entrants aged 12 and over. An adult guardian must accompany each entrant aged under 16 for the duration of the walk and we must have a signed parental consent form filled in by each under 18’s legal parent or guardian.

Can I volunteer for Twilight with a Twist?

Yes please! As always, it is a massive volunteer team that make the Twilight Walk possible – we simply couldn’t run the event without an army of volunteers. In 2021, more than ever, we will need a large number of volunteers to support the event as many of our previous volunteers may not yet be able or feel comfortable to volunteer. If you or someone you know could help at the event we would be incredibly grateful, please get in touch. They are lots of different volunteer roles including out on the route and at the event site so please contact us if you’re interested by emailing events@hospiscare.co.uk. Thank you.
