In December 2015, Paul Hawkins made a New Year’s resolution – to be genuinely altruistic for 2016 while keeping fit at the same time. Luckily for Hospiscare, we were his chosen charity.
Paul rose to his own challenge, completing one endurance test each month of 2016, ranging from running to kayaking with the odd half-marathon thrown in for good measure.
‘I became aware of Hospiscare through working in the Cytology Department at the RD&E. My fiancée, Rosie Hawkins, has given me immense support, not just by taking part in some of the challenges but by providing transport and logistical support for those events she didn’t take part in. My sister, Emily Clements, was my most vocal champion on social media and my most regular donor. I ended up raising £1585.50 before Gift Aid was added, and am so pleased that I’ve decided to keep supporting Hospiscare with further activities.’
Paul will be walking the Devon Coast to Coast Trail from Plymouth to Lynton in August 2017 and has other challenges in the pipeline.
Thank you very much Paul, Rosie and Emily – you have really made a difference to our patients and their families, and we’re so thrilled that you are staying on board to raise more funds in the future.
