Sell-out Burns Night at Huntsham Court in aid of Hospiscare

Huntsham Court owners, Damian & Chris, with Hospiscare CEO, Peter Brennan

The sound of the bagpipes rang out through the hills and valleys of mid Devon on 24th January, as Hospiscare welcomed 100 guests to its sell-out Burns Night supper at the majestic Huntsham Court, hosted by owners Chris Badham and Damian Llambias.

It was a traditional celebration of the acclaimed Scottish poet, Robbie Burns. Local bagpiper, Paul Jackson, piped in the Haggis and gave a stirring Address to the Haggis which was thoroughly enjoyed after the whiskey toast.  Supper was followed by Devon based Ceilidh band, Piping Hot, with a variety of Scottish Country Dances which kept the guests twirling and spinning in front of the open fire, late into the night.

With some fantastic auction prizes on offer, including an apartment in Morzine, an original painting by Alasdair Urquhart and a springtime forage and lunch with acclaimed Chef, Tim Maddams, over £9,000 was raised on the night to support Hospiscare, the local charity caring for the terminally ill in Exeter, Mid and East Devon.

Damian Llambias, Co-owner of Huntsham Court, said: “We want to congratulate Hospiscare and all who attended the Burns Night supper for making the evening such a great success.”

Co-owner, Chris Badham, added: “Huntsham Court has stood at the heart of the community for 150 years and we want to ensure that it continues to play an important role in the life of the area. As such, we continue to invite local groups and charities to apply to the Huntsham Hotspots scheme for complimentary use of the house and its grounds for events and fundraising initiatives.”

Peter Brennan, CEO of Hospiscare said “It was a fantastic evening. Chris and Damian have been incredibly generous hosts, and we are very grateful to them and all the Huntsham team for their support with this event.  With less than 20% government funding we are reliant on the community to raise the money needed every day to help our patients and their families.  We aim to help people make the most of the time they have together. It is nights like this that make it happen.”
