Hospiscare Heroes - From Ultra Distance Walks To Tractor Trundles

This week we have Open Gardens Galore, a Tractor Trundle and an amazing lady named Pip walking from John O’Groats to Land’s End in aid of the Hospice.

We start this week’s Hospiscare’s Heroes Blog with a huge thank you to Pip Bowhay who is currently walking from John O’Groats to Land’s End in memory of husband Richard who passed away at the Hospice in 2011. Her story is well worth a read and she has raised over £2000 so far. An incredible effort I am sure you would agree.

Thank you to Edward Underdown for arranging the 10th Honiton Tractor Trundle, raising £693 for Hospiscare’s Kings House Day Hospice with more than 40 drivers setting off from Honiton to trundle their tractors for 27 miles through the East Devon countryside.

A massive thank you to the Cranbrook Community Choir and ‘Key Voices’ from Bristol who put on an event in support of Hospiscare at the Younghayes Centre in Cranbrook. They collected on the day and also held a raffle the proceeds of which are coming to Hospiscare.

Thank you to Sarah and Mike Drewe. Visitors enjoyed cream teas, Pimms and strawberries, a gardening and posie stall as well as a talk by Hospiscare Community Nurse Specialist at The Open Garden at Broadhembury House. The fabulous garden was very much enjoyed by everybody and raised an incredible £1900.

A huge thank you to the staff and visitors at Fursdon House who braved torrential rain on the 1st June to visit the beautiful Fursdon House garden. Tea and cake was very much enjoyed and despite the appalling weather the event still raised £100.

Our huge thanks to the team at the Ockment Centre in Okehampton who have created a relaxing community garden from a former school playground. They opened the garden and served Cream Teas to support their local nurses and raised an amazing £325.90. If you missed the chance to visit this time the garden will be open again on the 14th July.

An enormous thank you to Ann and Travis Rowlands and their family and friends who held their ever popular Open Garden at Westleigh on the 10th June. Visitors enjoyed homemade refreshments, the chance to sit in the sunny garden, as well as the opportunity to browse through the Rural Life Museum featuring everything from tractors to toys.  Ann and Travis have supported the Open Gardens from the beginning and have yet again raised an amazing £1600 for Pine Lodge.

Yarrow Park Open Garden on Sunday 17th June raised over £120. Thankyou to Mr and Mrs Evans and the Honiton Support Group for their invaluable help on the day.

Thanks to Wixels Open Garden in Topsham which witnessed another busy afternoon with visitors delighting in picturesque waterside views whilst enjoying tea and cake. Ably managed by the Topsham Support Group Wixels has opened for many years and this year made over £500 for our patients.

We love seeing all that you do for Hospiscare so, if you are planning on doing any fundraising, please direct message us on Facebook or email so that we can recognise your efforts. We couldn’t do what we do without you.
