Hospiscare Heroes - Bikes, Bowling and Beautiful Blooms!

Hospiscare relies on the support of the local community to be able to provide the level of care we offer. And the local community does not disappoint! From flowers to fairs, there's something for everyone.

Read on to find out what some of our Hospiscare Heroes have been up to recently!

Brian and Harvey bring flowers to Hospiscare

For the last six years Brian has been popping into his local Sainsbury's in Alphington every night to collect flowers which have past their sell by dates. Brian and his loyal companion Harvey then bring the flowers into Hospiscare so staff and patients can purchase at a discounted rate.  All the money raised goes to the charity.  Over the course of six years Brian has helped to raise thousands of ££££s through flower donations!

A huge thank you to Brian who came up with this idea himself and volunteers his time to collect and deliver the beautiful blooms. We must also send a shout out to Brian’s dog Harvey who helps with deliveries and likes to have a bowl of tea when he comes to Hospiscare (with a biscuit from his own special jar!)

Generous thanks also to the Alphington Road Sainsbury’s for their kind support.

Chagford Christmas Fair

A big thank you also to Chagford Support Group who held an early Christmas Fair including some lovely hand crafted gifts and decorations – many donated by Hospiscare staff. The group and their supporters had a fabulous morning despite Storm Brian and raised over £700.

Budleigh Male Voice Choir raise over £800

A massive thank you goes to Jan Widgery and sons Kevin and Nick who organised a fundraising concert in Cullompton with the Budleigh Male Voice Choir in memory of Jan’s husband, Mike.  Mike was a member of the choir and was looked after by Hospiscare.  The concert raised an amazing £800 with the choir performing to a packed church.

Bridge House Coffee Morning

Thanks also go to Bridge House RCH Dawlish who held a Coffee Morning for us and raised £400 in a couple of hours one Saturday morning.  Bridge House is currently closed for refurbishment but when they reopen they will be holding two hamper raffles for us during December.

Lions Bowling Night

A big thank you to the Lions Club of Exeter West Charity, who have presented Hospiscare with a cheque for £500 from a bowling night, and for their ongoing volunteering contribution at the Warehouse Shop in Exeter. Some Hospiscare retail and logistics staff took part in the bowling night, and had a lot of fun!

Barclays Support Hospiscare

A big thank you to the Okehampton Friends, who organised a Coffee Morning in September. Barclays bank offered to match fund for them; Hazel and Alison at Barclays also did a round of office cake, where they sold people cakes which they’d made and then delivered them to their offices on the day.  We also had a lovely handmade doll donated to Hospiscare, for which they held a ‘name the doll’ raffle; the winning name was Florence Victoria.  All together the event raised an amazing £1,320 for Hospiscare!

Alphington Community Bike Ride

A huge thank you also goes to Russell Cram and friends who organised a fantastic family bike ride, Alphington Community Bike Ride, in aid of Hospiscare and Breast Cancer UK.  The riders met at the New Inn in Alphington and enjoyed a ride to Exmouth where they had lunch and then rode back again.  The event raised an incredible £1557.06 for Hospiscare.

Alphington Cyclists

A big thank you to Claire Bergfeld who organised a quiz night with her colleagues at The Horse and Groom in Heavitree and raised over £240 for Hospiscare.

We love seeing all that you do for Hospiscare so, if you are planning on doing any fundraising, please direct message us on Facebook or email so that we can recognise your efforts. We couldn’t do what we do without you.
