The dedication of long-serving Hospiscare volunteers and members of staff was celebrated at exclusive afternoon teas this autumn. Pine Lodge, Kings House and St Peter’s Church in Exeter held host to hundreds of attendees with over five years’ service, who were presented with certificates and badges by the Hospiscare trustees in acknowledgement of their support and dedication to the charity.
Everyone enjoyed homemade baking from the Searle House kitchen and it was a joy to hear the laughter and chat at all of the venues as people reminisced about being part of the Hospiscare team.
Afternoon tea organiser and Volunteering Manager, Vicky Lachenicht, was thrilled so many were able to attend. She said: “ The immense dedication people give to the hospice is so appreciated, and of the 438 staff and volunteers from all parts of Hospiscare who have given more than five years’ service, more than 50 have given over 20 years’ service. This is an outstanding achievement from people, to do something special in their community, to make a difference every single day.”
As one of the volunteers said: “I have met so many new people, made wonderful and long lasting friendships, found a new interest and skill in life. I have learnt about other people and the interesting lives they have led. It will always be a great honour to serve Hospiscare and to be with people at such a tender and special time in their lives. ”
