Double Locks
Candles on the Canal
21st Sep 2019

Arrival & Registration

There is limited parking at the Double Locks.  We would strongly advise car sharing where possible, or arriving in good time for the event, as parking spaces cannot be guaranteed in the pub car park.

Arrival is from 4.30pm.

We will gather in the marquee at 5.30pm, this will be a 20 minute gathering to remember loved ones. This short secular (non-religious) gathering will include live music, words and is a time to reflect before the walk.

The walk will start at 6.15pm, the 3 mile route takes about 1 hour to complete. Before leaving you will be handed your lantern to light the way, and leave your leaf with us to add to the hundreds of others on our floating raft.

You will be welcomed back to the Double Locks with a hot drink. The pub will be open for those wishing to purchase from the bar or perhaps stay for a bite to eat.

Sponsorship Money/Personal Possessions

If you have managed to collect sponsorship money, THANK YOU. You can hand these funds over or make a personal donation on the day. Our team will be delighted to accept these valued funds. If you would rather not carry the cash, you can always bank the money and make your payment by card.

If you have possessions which you don`t need on the walk, you can you leave your bag at the event arena – look out for the 'Bag Drop' or ask a member of the team.

The three mile route will take you along the River Exe to Exeter’s historic quay, it is a circular route crossing the river and returning to the Double Locks.

The route is flat and suitable for wheelchair and pushchair users.

Please wear appropriate footwear, which will be comfortable. The majority of the walk will be on concrete pathways.

After the Walk

As you approach the finish of the walk you will see a pontoon raft covered in candles, each lit in memory of a loved one, floating on the canal. The leaves attached will be returned to the hospice should anyone wish to have theirs returned, or you can visit the hospice to take yours home following the event.
