Patrick was a Consultant ENT Surgeon at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital for 30 years. He joined the Board of his Trust as its Medical Director for five years.
He was Regional Adviser to the Royal College of Surgeons and Hon Secretary of the British Association of Otolaryngologists.
After leaving the NHS he joined the Board of Mercury Health, an Independent Sector Company providing services for NHS patients, as its Group Medical Director.
After being Chair of the Trustees for a number of years, he is now President of Hospiscare.
He is also a Trustee of Hospice UK, the member organisation for all the independent hospice organisations in the UK, including those in the NHS and Marie Curie Cancer Care and Sue Ryder.
He chairs Butterfly Children’s Hospices a charity providing palliative care for children in two hospices in China.
