Volunteers can help in one of our shops from the age of 14. There is no upper age limit for our volunteers.
Yes, we welcome applications from anyone interested in volunteering with us. Where possible we will match your interest and skills to our needs and opportunities.
However, anyone who has experienced a recent bereavement should consider very carefully before volunteering with us. We suggest you should give yourself at least a year after your loss.
You will be asked to provide basic information and two referees - a friend or colleague, for example. We're sure you will understand that as we are working with such vulnerable patients, we check everyone who works here, including volunteers.
In certain areas of work volunteers are required under the Care Standards Act 2000 to apply for disclosure through the Disclosure and Barring Service. If this check is necessary, we will assist you with the form. There is no charge for this check.
Because of the sensitive nature of the duties involved, this voluntary work is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, therefore a declaration must be completed to include details of criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands and final warnings and other information that may have a bearing on suitability for voluntary work.
Yes we will pay your travel expenses. Volunteers can claim for mileage, parking and other possible expenses associated with the role.
On average it usually takes around 3-6 weeks from the time you submit your application to the time you start in your role. However this can depend on the role and area of work.
We will provide you with the help, support and guidance you need. All volunteers attend a short course to prepare for work with Hospiscare and receive training and support tailored to their role.
At Hospiscare, our teams care for more than 2,200 patients each year. This service extends to family members too. Volunteers give their gift of time and dedication, helping to make a difference every day.
