This course is primarily aimed at people who regularly work with people affected by loss either on employed or on voluntary basis.  It is suitable for those undertaking bereavement care in their professional roles and as part of the preparation to become a bereavement volunteer at Hospiscare.

It is not a counselling course and it does not lead to any certified qualification.

What are the learning outcomes?

  • To Compare and contrast the different models and theories.
  • To recognise own experience and reactions to loss and understand the importance of self-care.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the concepts of individual coping styles and the support needs of people who have been bereaved
  • Demonstrate increased confidence in supporting children and families affected by loss.
  • To recognise pre-bereavement and bereavement stages, concerns and to demonstrate how support might be provided and offered.
  • Demonstrate communication, especially listening skills with empathy.
