Introduction to loss grief and bereavement
Location: Boxall Room - Hospiscare Exeter
Start date: 16th February 2017
End date: 16th February 2017

Sometimes it is hard to know how to help someone who is bereaved. Finding the right words, knowing whether to talk about their loved one and finding ways to support them in their new world. There is no blueprint for grief. This day explores those experiences and theories to help you know what you can do or say for someone who is grieving or facing loss and change ahead.

Session objectives:

  • Have a broad understanding of definitions for loss, grief, bereavement and associated terms.
  • Consider different models to explain the nature of grief and relate them to practice.
  • Provide a compassionate response to the grief experience of others
  • Recognize their own experience and reactions to loss, grief and bereavement and understand the importance of self-care.

This session is delivered by Nigel Mason our Chaplain. This one-day course is suitable for any registered practitioner (Nurse, AHP, Dr) working with adult patients with long-term conditions/life limiting illness.
