Volunteer roles
There are many different ways that you can help Hospiscare.
Different roles for volunteers
We have roles for volunteers across Exeter, mid and east Devon, as well as in the hospice in Exeter. Whatever your skills, there is likely to be something that you can do to help us.
Care at home
Each community nursing team is supported by a band of volunteers in their area. Areas of support include:
- Sitting with a patient to allow their carer to have a little time to themselves
- Befriending
- Driving patients to appointments
- Shopping
- Light gardening
- Dog walking
- Bereavement support

In the hospice
- In the ward
- Serving teas, coffees and lunches
- Ironing
In our day centres
- Practical support and a listening ear
- Hand and nailcare
- Aromatherapy and reflexology
- Driving patients from or to their home

General
- Welcoming visitors to the hospice
- Serving drinks, sandwiches, meals and confectionery at our coffee shop
- Staff the reception desk in evenings or weekends
- Gardening
- Flower arranging
- Driving patients to and from the hospice
Fundraising
Areas of support include:
- Carry out administrative or clerical tasks
- Collect lottery subscriptions
- Join one of our local fundraising groups
- In one of the Hospiscare charity shops
- Help at street collections
- Staff stalls at charity shows and carnivals
- Gather items for stalls, donate crafts, or make cakes for sale
- Introduce business contacts to help with fundraising activities
