Bereavement care

Hospiscare's service doesn't stop when someone dies. Supporting those close to a patient is at the heart of our work.

There to help

Hospiscare is there to help family and carers when someone dies. Care Manager, Yvonne Howard, co-ordinates our bereavement services, and is available to talk to anyone at any stage of their grief.

Team support

We have a team of trained bereavement volunteers who work closely with our community nursing teams, providing support either on the phone or at home. If you would like to volunteer, see the link to the top and right of this page.

Hospiscare has monthly drop-in sessions for bereaved relatives and carers of patients. Some people find it helpful to meet others who are going through a similar experience.

All the family

Children and young people often have particular needs in coming to terms with the death of someone close to them, and Hospiscare has resources to help.

Practical guidance

Hospiscare has developed some practical information to help you 'When someones dies... a guide to the days ahead'.

It contains local numbers for registering a death and arranging a funeral, as well as advice for coping emotionally with further sources of support.
