Weather window for charity golfers

Annual event raises £9,000 for Hospiscare

Organisers of Hospiscare’s annual golf tournament held their breath as a storm hit their course just 24 hours before tee-off.

But a weather window saved the day on Thursday (July 15th) as nearly 200 players from across Devon enjoyed the sixth charity challenge at the Exeter Golf and Country Club.

Janet Milford, one of the event organisers, said she was delighted that in the end all teams played mostly in the dry.

“We were so relieved,” she said. “Everyone at least started in the dry and thoroughly enjoyed the day. Our thanks go to everyone who helped.”

The event has raised around £9,000 for Hospiscare which cares for patients and their families throughout Exeter, mid and East Devon.

Alison Palfrey, Hospiscare’s director of fundraising said: “This is a very popular event on our fundraising calendar and we are very grateful to all the organisers and to the teams for their enthusiasm.”

Winners on the day were the “Golden girls” team from Exeter in the ladies’ event and the Nick Agg-Manning team for the men.
