The spectacular and uniquely elegant gardens of Rackenford Manor provided the setting for a special questions and answers session held by local charity Hospiscare on Tuesday 9th August. Over 250 people attended the event which saw a number of celebrity garden experts take questions from the general public.
Radio 4’s Anne Swithenbank was joined by Radio Devon’s Sarah Chesters and Michael Hickson, the retired head gardener of the Knightshayes Garden Trust to answer visitors’ questions.
The event also provided an opportunity for visitors to get a rare glimpse of the beautiful gardens of Rackenford Manor. These are not usually open to the public but were openedwith the kind permsision of the Scott family.
The event, launched by former High Sheriff of Devon, the Honourable Mrs Elizabeth d'Erlanger, was brought to an end by local band The Revellers.
“Hospiscare is so grateful to Mr and Mrs Scott for allowing us use of their garden and marquee for this tremendous event,” says Alison Palfrey, Director of Fundraising. “They provided us with a delightful setting for the panel of expert to answer a myriad of gardening questions. Our thanks also go to each of the panel for giving their time to support Hospiscare.”
This event, sponsored by Bearnes Hampton & Littlewood, Seddons and Ashfords Solicitors has raised over £3,500 so far and funds are still coming in. All the money raised will be used to help a wide range of community services for local patients and their families in the mid Devon area.
