Star Employer Status for Devon charity

Hospiscare receives recognition in ‘Best Companies Accreditation’

A national survey has rated Devon charity Hospiscare a ‘first class’ employer in its prestigious annual accreditation programme for the second year running.

The ‘Best Companies’ programme, which measures employee engagement, has awarded the Exeter-based hospice charity a ‘One Star’ status as part of its Best Companies Accreditation programme. Companies obtaining ‘One Star’ status are acknowledged as ‘first class’ employer.

Glynis Atherton, Chief Executive of Hospiscare, said: “This is a fantastic achievement and I would like to say thank you to every member of staff for their dedication and commitment to Hospiscare. It has been a difficult and challenging year and to know that our employees feel motivated and happy in their work is a wonderful compliment for our organisation.”

The programme, which was established seven years ago, is based entirely on feedback from staff, who are invited to completed a detailed questionnaire on all aspects of working life, including company leadership, employee wellbeing, relationships with managers, relationships with colleagues, feelings towards your company, personal growth, fair dealing over pay and benefits, and the organisation’s record for giving something back to society.

Jonathan Austen, CEO of Best Companies, said: ““We would like to congratulate Hospiscare on their outstanding achievement. An engaged workforce is essential as organisations move out of the recession and into a more stable economic situation. No doubt many organisations have tackled redundancies and rapid change this year. But organisations like Hospiscare that have kept on engaging their staff and making sure they are involved in the business will be in a good position for the future and should be congratulated for their efforts”.

Hospiscare is a local, independent charity which provides expert support and care to patients with terminal illness and their families, completely free of charge.
