A garden party at Powderham Castle is being held to celebrate Hospiscare volunteers winning the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
On September 10th more than 600 volunteers from across Exeter, mid and east Devon will enjoy tea in a marquee on the lawns of Powderham as well as a special tour of castle rooms including the magnificent libraries and sitting room.
Hospiscare will also be turning the tables for the event with charity staff volunteering to serve the award-winners.
“This is a very special occasion when we get the chance to serve our volunteers for a change,” said Hospiscare’s volunteering manager Vicky Lachenicht. “Winning this award is an extraordinary achievement for our supporters and we wanted to do something really special to say congratulations….and thank you. ”
Powderham Castle has been made available thanks to Lady Devon who is one of Hospiscare’s ambassadors. The charity’s patron Lady Clifford of Chudleigh will host the event.
Each volunteer will receive a special badge featuring the coveted emblem of the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service which was officially presented to Hospiscare volunteers at a special ceremony in Exeter in June.
Hospiscare has nearly 1,000 volunteers who together contribute one million pounds worth of effort each year.
The charity supports patient and their families with a wide range of services throughout Exeter, mid and east Devon.
