A team of pasty makers are gearing up for a marathon session producing hundreds of nutritious savoury snacks, all in aid of charity.
Exeter-based Hospiscare is organising a men-only fundraising walk which begins and ends at Sandy Park, the home of the Exeter Chiefs.
And all participants will be rewarded afterwards with a tasty treat, supplied by Exmouth-based Moore’s Pasties & Pies.
The firm is preparing to bake hundreds of pasties overnight in preparation for the big event, which takes place on 17th March.
Daniel Moore, Bakery Assistant, said he decided to support the event after seeing it promoted on the charity’s Facebook page.
Although he will not receive confirmation of the exact number of pasties required until a few days before the event, he said the team was well practiced as they supply the Chiefs on match days.
He added: “We can make anywhere between 500 and 1,200 pasties, depending on how big the game is. In total last season we supplied 22,000 to the Chiefs.
“We usually start at 11pm the night before a game and bake throughout the night to hit the deadline for an 8am delivery.”
Daniel and the Moore’s team are also made a giant pasty for a Men’s Walk promotional event which took place in Exeter Guildhall on January 28.
He said it was expected to weigh in the region of four kilos – about 10 times heavier than normal – and was raffled off during the day.
Lousie Beeken, Events Manager for Hospiscare, said she was delighted Moore’s had offered their help.
“Daniel and the team have been incredibly supportive and I’m sure our walkers will be grateful for their involvement too,” she added.
As well as tucking into pasties, those who complete the 10k walk will be treated to a free pint and will also get to enjoy the England v Ireland Six Nations game on the big screen.
Registration for the walk, which is sponsored by South West Communications, is now open and full details are available by phoning 01392 688020 or at www.menswalk.co.uk
Any males aged 12 or over are eligible to take part for the event, which is being billed as the perfect boys’ day out.
All of the money raised from the new event will be used to support patients and their families across Exeter, mid and east Devon.
The walk is the first key fundraiser for local charity Hospiscare in its special 30th anniversary year.
