Funding boost - thanks to Michelmores

Three years....and nearly £100,000

Hospiscare has thanked Michelmores Solicitors for a major funding boost as money pours in from the firm’s annual 5 kilometre run.

It’s the third year that the Pynes Hill law firm has named Hospiscare as the beneficiary of the event. More than £30,000 is expected this time – bringing the total raised by Michelmores for the local charity to almost £100,000.

Hospiscare Chief Executive Glynis Atherton, said: “We need to raise more than £4 million each year to provide expert care and support for local people and their families – so every penny is very gratefully received.

“We particularly thank Michelmores for raising a magnificent amount on our behalf. The firm spends a lot of its own money in staging the event and they are very active in raising corporate sponsorship to help pay for the equipment and the race monitoring chips. In addition, Michelmores’ staff give generously of their time to marshal and direct the event while many run in it as well.

“The contribution of so many at Michelmores has been outstanding.”

Michelmores’ Marketing Director , Louise Edwards added: “It costs around £10,000 to stage the event much of which we raise through corporate sponsorship or pay for ourselves. This enables us to maximise the amount raised by the runners themselves towards the charity.

“All the entrance fees go to Hospiscare and when we found that many of the runners weren’t actively raising further sponsorship, we added an extra £5 to the entry fee which also goes straight to the charity.

“Hospiscare have a great fund-raising record with 90p in every pound going to patient care so it is good for the competitors in the Michelmores Annual Charity Run to know that almost all the money they contribute either through the cost of entry or through individual sponsorship, ends up being spent on those who really need the wonderful services supplied by Hospiscare.”
