Hospiscare in Devon is hosting a key conference on how different faiths and cultures approach end-of-life care.
Buddhist teacher and “Thought for the Day” Radio Four broadcaster Vishvapani Blomfield will be the keynote speaker at the Nov 5th “The Dignity of Difference” conference at the Southgate Hotel in Exeter.
Hospiscare’s chaplain David Walford, who is organising the one-day conference, said Vishvapani and other speakers would together hope to bring a better understanding of the needs of people of different cultures and faiths at the most sensitive time of health provision.
“This conference is for everyone from management to those who provide hands-on care at the end of life,” said David. “It is an opportunity for different faiths and cultures to communicate their needs so that we protect the spiritual and cultural integrity of both the carers and the cared-for.”
As well as a range of speakers and opportunities for debate, the conference has invited local drama students to role-play a range of situations for delegates to address.
The conference will be co-chaired by Patrick Beasley, chair of Hospiscare’s Trustees and Rev Dr John Searle, the founder of the charity which now provides a wide range of support to patients and their families throughout Exeter, mid and East Devon.
Healthcare professionals, managers and representatives of different cultures and faiths can book now or contact 01392 688036 education@hospiscare.co.uk for more information.
